Botox - What is it and how it works?

HOW DOES BOTOX^® ( and other Botulinum toxin A)  WORK

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold. Gradually and over years, this results in the formation of facial lines. Injecting a local neurotoxin called: Botulinum toxin A ( the famous name is BOTOX^® ) works temporarily on those muscles and weakens them and causes formed frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines to fade and look better.

There are different brand names in the US for Botulinum toxin A: Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeuvau.  These are the brands used for aesthetic purposes, however they are also approved to be used in medical applications to treat other medical , non aesthetic conditions. 

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH THE AESTHETIC TREATMENT

It is an injection with a very fine needle, so you may feel a tiny pinch. The treatment takes minutes, and no down time is expected. You may begin to notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines within 48 hours, with full results in 2-3 weeks lasting up to 4 months for moderate to severe lines.

BOTOX^® is not a permanent treatment. If you discontinue treatment the moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines will gradually return.
